Location (GPS) and the phone's motion sensor, while you drive and while detection is on, including when the app is closed or the screen is off. This is how the app notices big bumps and records where they happened. A notification shows while detection runs. The app also asks to show notifications for logged hits.
Each logged hit stores its location, time, speed and jolt strength. This is kept only on your phone. The app has no server and no account. Nothing leaves your phone unless you tap to send.
To show a street name for a hit, the app asks the Android location geocoding service on your phone to turn coordinates into a street name. Depending on your phone, that service may be provided by Google and may send the coordinates to it. The app itself sends nothing.
If you entered an email address in Settings (for example the address of your own assistant), the app opens your email app with a prefilled message to that address listing the saved spots. You press send yourself. If you did not enter one, the app copies the spots and opens the NYC 311 website so you can file under your own name. Your email provider and the recipient then handle the message under their own policies. The app does not file reports and cannot confirm that any report was filed.
The address you enter is stored only on your phone and is used only as the recipient of that email.
